Holger is blogging

Finally he puts his opinions online, I am very curious to read ... at least some people start writing more intelligent stuff than me :-)

Looking for a day care ...

Either because we were unlucky or we simply didn't call the right person yet, but it seems impossible to find some kind of day care for our little son. The biggest problem is that it has to start in September! The bavarian government doesn't seem to be aware of this bottleneck. There are even a lot parent initiatives (I guess that's what they are called) that the government should see that there is a big need. I read somewhere that those parent initiatives are taking care of more than 2000 kids (>2000!).  Is that not sign enough?

Anyway, if there is someone out there who knows someone ... and so on. Just let us know. ... I can be patient, but ...

A bad idea

It's really a bad idea to listen to "Rosas" by La Oreja de van Gogh on a day like today ...

I love(d) my bike

My o' bikeThis morning, before leaving the flat I thought about it. Shall I walk and listen to some music or shall I take the bike, which is simply quicker? Well, I take the bike, as usual, I just like moving quickly. So I walk down the stairs and opened the door to leave the house. Right in front of it my bike is parked ... usually.

Hell! Did I park it somewhere else? Did I forget to bring it home? ... Slowly the thought arose that it might had been stolen. Did I properly lock it? Did I lock it around the pole as I usually do? ... Yeah, I had done everything as normal, I am sure it was locked properly etc. Shit, it must have been stolen. Geeee. I was mad!!! Loved this bike, it was so comfortable and easy to cruise with, just a really nice feeling riding it.

Mine was just like the one on the picture only plain black and with a carrier at the back. On the back of the saddle there was written "Felt" in a nice handwriting-like font, in white. I had had a new gear shift put on, because the old one broke. I only had the bike for a year and a half now, but since I used it every day it already started to get rusty. The back break doesn't work very well anymore, I wanted to get that fixed. It had hooks for lights in the front and in the back. It's a pitty ...

I don't have much hope, but if anyone around Munich (Germany) sees this bike just drop me a message. (I guess there are many bikes like this one around ... but you never know).
Hopelessly waiting ....

iPhotoToGallery

Lately we are taking a whole pile of pictures every day. But what the heck am I doing with all the pictures on my Mac and additionally the family in my back asking for new pictures every day ... well the baby is growing, they want to see proof!

Of course we are using iPhoto to manage our photos. iPhoto is a really nice tool when you only want to manage your photos, iPhoto5 is even better (some manipulation is possible too, neat). And we definetly only want to manage the pics, we will not start modifying them. If a picture is not good enough we have not taken enough tries to have at least one that is good enough :-). We praise the digital camera with enough space for many tries for a good photo!

But, the family is still on my back - "We want to see pictures of the little boy!". So next step, instead of sending pics around in huge emails, which are too big for most of the family members (who still live with modems) aynway, we have to get the pics online. But I don't feel like exporting hundreds of photos every month and copying them into some tool, which uploads them into the gallery so there needs to be some iPhoto to gallery tool. I remember that I had one downloaded and installed some while ago, but I couldn't find the link and webpage. So on the hunt again. First I didn't want to believe it, the first search result was something that looked just like what I wanted ... long story short ... iPhotoToGallery is your friend.

Big thanks to Zachary Wily, this tool just rocks. We select the pics we want online, right inside iPhoto, click Export or Cmd+Shift+E, choose the tab Gallery and after the gallery username etc. had been set up once you only choose the album the pics shall go in or create a new one, and you just say GO. Great thing!

If the world was perfect I hadn't been looking for such a tool and I wouldn't have anything to complain, so here we go:

  • When I edit the Albums in the gallery admin pages iPhotoToGallery doesn't update it's albums, not even after a restart of iPhoto, that sucks big time.
  • And removing an album from within iPhotoToGallery isn't possible either.

By the way, there would be a lot to complain about gallery (first they need a designer!!!), but since iPhotoToGallery is so comfortable I (have to) stick to gallery.

Good luck uploading pics ...

A proud father showing off

I think there is no comment necessary. I am just wondering what he will say when he sees and realizes one day that he has gone public :-)
